Is there such a thing as Too Much Defense?

As you can see i'm well above the required 540 defense.

Question is, should i replace some of my defense gems to health ones perhaps? Or to pure avoidance ones?



Or is a lot of defense not a bad thing to have?

Don't worry about it at all. Your defense will drop as you upgrade your gear.

But meanwhile, should i replace my current +16 defense gems with +24 health, as well above 540 defense or is the extra defense worth it?

Sure if you want to regem/rechant every upgrade. Higher level pieces have more avoidance and less defense so it evens out if you stay with the setup you have.

Defense over 540 still provides avoidance, tho typically not as much as you could get through other means.

Also given that the absolute maximum in defense rating is 1200-1300 rating that point can't be achieved in game.

There isn't any reason not to use defense or dodge once you have the minimum EH needed. And as others have said your defense rating will go down as your avoidance from dodge and parry goes up.

If you gear sensibly you simply won't ever have too much defense.

IMO get defense on your shield so you can replace the Seal.
though its a good trinket and you should always keep it around just in case <3

Pretty sure I was sitting at around 580-590 defense before I started getting my drops from Naxx... now I sit around 540 in my avoidance gear and around 550 in my threat/block set...

it will even out - having a lot of defense won't hurt you - long as you are above the EH you need for the encounters you're doing... which it appears you are just fine there...

keep the defense - it will come in handy later and you will regret removing it when you start upgrading and have to put it right back...
