T4 vs T5 shoulders

Postby Fapman » Tue Aug 12, 2008 2:54 am

I currently own a pair of T4 shoulders and as we get within killing range of VR (7% last try) I would be the first to get paladin shoulders if they drop.

I do know that MT gear progression states T5 > T4, but I don't want to give up my 2/4 T4 bonus for what appears to me as a minor upgrade.

thanks in advance for your advice

Nobody can force to use them asap when u get them.

But they still are a clear upgrade in therms of avoidance.

Just get them and go kill Karathes.

Ya know, this brings up an interesting point that I've been curious about other's opinions on. The first time I looked at the T5 shoulders, I was underwhelmed with the stats on them. The parry is nice for the avoidance and there is a small increase in the armor and stats, but in comparison with the loss of block rating and small spell damage loss, not to mention I doubt anybody would toss 2 red gems in here for the socket bonus, how would this be much better than the T4 shoulders or the ZA shoulders? I know parry rating is hard to come by and if you needed them for that, they would work out great, but I've always been underwhelmed by the stats on them. Personally, I like block rating a lot more on most fights as it builds threat and allows to gain mana back after being healed. I only use my pure avoidance set for a few fights(Not in T6 content).

Thoughts, or am I missing something here?

I like Avoidance.

I have no problem reaching uncrushability.

I haven't looked at my T4 shoulders since getting T5.

There are two types of guy in the world. Those who wank and those who lie about not wanking.

Don't get me wrong. I love avoidance. You can't die if you don't get hit. Avoidance is king. And if I didn't have to worry about mana and TPS, I would take avoidance 10 times out of 10. But if I have to take 2k damage and get healed to gain back mana and toss out Holy Shield TPS, I'll take it. Personally, when I run out of mana, bad things happen. I am usually around 6500 mana buffed and in some battles, that can run out in a hurry. I notice it a lot in ZA when having to AOE 4-5 mobs at once and not taking enough damage to get mana back. I drink pots when I have to, but there are even times where that is on cool down and then mobs sometimes get loose. I'm sure in some of the T6 battles, avoidance is key, I just haven't seen any of that as of yet.

You know I never did get my T5 shoulders.... or T4 for that matter... lol.

I never even got my D3 set to drop... or the ones off netherspite....

I went Warchief's Mantle (lvl 70 blue) > Spaulders of Dimentia (heroic sethekk) > Pauldrons of Stone Resolve (ZA) > Pauldrons of Abyssal Fury (BT).

Maybe I'll get lucky and actually end up with tier 6 shoulders, lol.

If i run out of mana, it's normally in a situation where it's safe to sit n' crit. Even with 56% avoidance, when it's something where it's tough enough to matter, I have no mana problems.

I just calculated that I stay uncrushable in T5 (fully raidbuffed, and barely uncrush).

So I guess I will get T5 for bosstanking duty, and keep T4 for anything else because of the extra threat/mana.
