Druid tank help

hey guys,

I needs some help on my druid tank. I need to know should I be gemming more for avoidence or for stam. I am currently gemming stam but my avoidence is low. i take some dmg but not horrible. I don't MS Feral tank so it is not a big deal but I do tank some heroics and would like to have the option available just in case I am needed in my weekly ICC runs. thanks in advance.

My main is a Druid tank so I'm very excited to answer your questions. If you wouldn't mind posting some more information such as an armory link or HP/Dodge/Armor numbers it would help a lot! Generally these days most druid tanks will gem stam until they feel they have enough HP to withstand a suitable amount of hits then gem agi. Never gem pure avoidance because AGI will net you atp/armor/dodge/crit.

This - most definately.

Depending on your quality of gear just like any of your toons you'll be stacking stam like most tanks, until you get a gross amount then you can go for the agi - it yields you survivability + helps your aggro.

Hey guys sorry for the late response. I have been extremely busy with RL and raiding these days. I do want to say that I am MS Resto so an armory link would be pretty useless but when I get home today I will look at posting my stats. I have mostly ICC 10 gear with a few pieces from ICC 25 and others are at least 232/245. Gear quality wise it isn't too bad. I know that my back pieces needs to be a tanking piece but rolling OS for ICC gear is sometimes a hassle when you can are waiting for all of our tanks to roll then trying for OS roll vs several other OS tanks that run more often than I do is difficult to say the least. I normally pass to them on most of those off pieces but there aren't any rogues so all DPS leather goes to me thankfully. Thanks for the help in advance.

Do you know why he would gem for defense? The bear tank I tank with said it looked very weird. That's all. Thanks for any input.

Well, it looks like he really likes socket bonuses. I can only see one reason to gem defense, and that's increasing your avoidance while matching the colors. Personally I couldn't care less about socket bonuses that aren't stamina, and I'd much rather gem for hit than for defense (this guy could do with a bit of extra hit).


Less relevant explanation: He might have been gearing specifically to solo-tank Thorim, but a pvp-set would be much more effective, and the defense he's gained through gems is nowhere near adequate to remain uncrittable w/ unbalancing strike.

Druid tanks never need to gem for defense of resilience as they have a talent (Survival of the Fittest) that makes them uncrittable. You should have +30 stam gems in every slot if you're bear tanking. Stamina is a bear's most important stat, all the other stats will come from your gear. (agil, ArPen, hit, expertise) I have a few hybrid cat/bear pieces that have 1 stam gem and an agil gem but other than that you need to be gemming all stamina to get your health as high as possible. I'm sitting at about 44k unbuffed right now in bear form, and I can tank ICC10 comfortably.

my druid is sitting at 74, hopefully will get to 80 bofore 4.0.1 hits, and is MS bear, OS kitty

im debating if i should stick with bear, switch to kitty, or try to gear hybrid with a bear-ish focus

basically gem/enchant stats that are good for both, or do the pally way and mass stam...

one more question, for bear gems, good socket bonuses color matching gems would be stam, agil/stam and wat for a yellow slot? (ok ok im done now!)

Don't worry about going for the socket bonuses. They usually aren't worth it. You want to squeeze as much stamina as possible out of your gear. For me, that means gemming +30 stam in every slot. As I said before, their talent Survival of the Fittest makes them uncrittable so they don't need a defense rating or resilience. Dodge is important for bears as it's one of your main threat and rage generators. All of your dodge should come from your trinkets, rings, and neck, so once again you don't need to gem for it. Agility comes with your druid gear.
