Haste comes out ahead by a bit. But if one is significantly cheaper....

Haste, usually, but at least from what I remember pre-3.1 they were nearly identical.

Isn't Potion of Wild Magic the best potion to use? If not I can quit making those expensive ass potions.

Think wild magic is the best if you can combine it with Avenging Wrath and Bloodlust. Speed is better if used without Bloodlust I think. Could be wrong though, not really looked into it that much as the differences aren't that great. Might be better to have both though so you can use wild magic on a Bloodlust if you need to burn something down (e.g. heart XT-002) and speed if like our raid bloodlusts aren't really timed that good, so you can use it in combination with Avenging Wrath.

I haven't played melee dps classes a lot but I would imagine for maximum DPS on retri speed pots are not all that good because main "nukes" are on fixed cooldowns and these don't really scale with haste at all. Only thing you would get is a bit faster melee swings. WM potion on the other hand would increase damage of those abilities with cooldowns aswell.

I read, but I can't remember where that Wild Magic are slightly ahead.
Might have been on Ret Paladin, I'll see if I can find it.

Seals and melee swings are a large portion of retribution damage. In terms of numbers, you're getting 500 haste instead of 200 crit 200 spell power. Spell power isn't worth much at all, so you're basically looking at 500 haste vs 200 crit + a few dps. Further, haste multiplies from different sources. For example, Bloodlust gives you 30% and the haste potion gives 15%. That turns into 49.5% instead of 45%.
Put another way, gear weightings in Rawr and other spreadsheets often put crit a little under twice as good haste. That would put 200 crit equal to about 400 haste. It's then a simple matter that 100 haste is better than 200 spell power.

Nah, it's pretty terrible (relative it it's ilevel anyway) because AP/Str are the prime choice for Ret, and unlike most trinkets the whetstone has neither. The trinket from heroic DTK, for example, is a much better choice.
