[Ret-PVE] Greatsword of the Sin'dorei

Greatsword of the Sin'dorei versus Colossal Skull-Clad Cleaver

Greatsword cons:
Slower, thus lower top-end damage (739 versus 761)
Haste
No agility

Greatsword pros:
11 more strength
10 more stamina
Less haste than the cleaver
Freakin' AWESOME-looking weapon

I'm not familiar enough with to know the relative values of haste, agility, strength, except hastebad, strengthgood, hitgood, slowgood... so I can't math out the numbers. Anyone have a more-informed opinion if the Greatsword would be a significant DPS loss?

They're going to be close, but my bet is that the greatsword is going to be better as long as you can use the hit...the hit and Str that you get are stronger stats than the Agi/haste on the Axe. Rawr is great for answering this sort of question and pretty easy to set up, I definitely recommend checking it out:

Maybe I don't understand something about melee DPS....

Why is haste a negative point?

Haste was fairly weak for Ret until the 3.1 patch, where it's roughly on a par with Crit. However, Strength and Hit (up to around 8% hit chance) are far more important stats for Ret than either haste or crit.

So, if that's true, assuming I'm not hit capped, the Greatsword seems WAY better..

Even with hitcapped, the Greatsword's got the edge, since it gives more AP.

No, if you were completely hitcapped without the sword the Axe would be better. Str is nice, but 11 Str isn't better than 45 haste and 54 Agility, not even close.

Chances are very high that you can make swaps in your gear elsewhere to make use of the hit from the Greatsword though, so the comparison isn't quite just between the two items.

Yep, that's why I really recommend Rawr for the most accurate answer to this kind of question.

I noticed that Rawr has worked out a lot of bugs in their Prot model.

How is their Ret model?

Much better than the Prot model. It was a little weak when WotLK first came out, but now it seems just as accurate as the REt spreadsheets, but with a more powerful and easier to use UI.

I'll have to check it out.

Their Shadow Priest model is ACE!

It could be. One possibility is the only the alliance version is included: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=45074

In any case, since the item is on wowhead you can easily add to to Rawr by going to edit items and clicking "add". You just provide the wowhead item number (in this case, 45205) and it takes care of the rest.

I wasn't aware of that capability. To the Theorycraft Mobile!

Edit: Well crappy, it's not an upgrade for my Ret set in my gear.
