Guillex doesn't have enough emblems for anything BoA, else Lobera would have the shoulders and 2h. :(

How about stone keeper shards?

I have trouble getting a tank and healer to run anything Heroic, the guild's burnt out of heroics by now, and DPS is a dime a dozen on the server. Stone Keepers shards, no... I doubt I have enough for anything.

And no, I don't have the money for dual-spec yet, nor do I have the prot gear for it, either. :)

I earn a lot of shards each time through Wintergrasp, you may want to try that. Plus, the rewards from the WG victory marks provide decent starting gear for an offspec set.

It's worth noting that the last time I checked, you couldn't Runeforge the BoA weapons anyway.

I think the point that Gothic was making is that a BoA at level N, with no enchant (or Crusader) is better than (or at least Close Enough to) a blue weapon of level (N-2) or (N-3), especially in the early 70s before you get that blue axe in Borean Tundra, where the greens are better than Outland weapons.

A Wowhead comment linked this stat lister for each level of an heirloom: ( http://quickarmory.com/heirloom.php?iid=42943 )

I will compare the dps/str/crit with the weapons that I would imagine are "staple" weapons as we level.

58-60: Greatsword of the Ebon Blade vs Bloodied Arcanite Reaper
Sword: 30 str, 24 stam, 12 hit, 60 dps
BAR: 24 str, 36 stam, 24 crit, 65 dps and larger per-hit strike damage

60-63: Hellreaver vs BAR
Hellreaver: 68.8 dps, 30 str, 27 stam, 25 crit
BAR @ 63: 28 str, 42 stam, 28 crit, 73 dps Seems like a clear winner.

63-65: I'm too lazy to go for Hatebringer.
Hatebringer: 73 dps, 25 str, 21 stam, 22 crit, three sockets make me think this is better than the BAR.
BAR @ 64: 75 dps, 28 str, 42 stam, 28 crit.

65: Terokk's Quill vs BAR
Quill: 93 dps, 54 agility, 33 stam. Missing str sounds subpotimal..
BAR @ 65: 78 dps, 29 str, 44 stam, 29 crit
BAR @ 68: 118 dps, 44 str, 66 stam, 44 crit
BAR @ 70: *124* dps, 47 str, 70 stam, 48 crit

70+: Northrend stuff
BAR @ 68: 118 dps, 44 str, 66 stam, 44 crit
Axe of Frozen Death: 118 dps, 37 str, 54 stam, 43 crit, 28 hit ... and looks awesome
BAR @ 70: *124* dps, 47 str, 70 stam, 48 crit
BAR @ 75: 138 dps, 56 str, etc etc etc.
BAR @ 78: 148 dps, 63 str, etc etc etc.
BAR @ 80: 156 dps, 68 str, etc etc etc.

... holy crap, the BAR is pretty good, despite being Heirloom. It pretty much outshines almost any blue Northrend weapon, a level before you can get the NR one. The weapon DPS is better earlier, though the stats ON The weapon are not as good as same-level NR blues. I guess I will be sending my DK the Reaper after all, once I get another level or so. (Though, it looks like complete ass, IMO, and Hellreaver looks so fucking cool.)

Kelaan, thanks a lot for the detailed comparison!
A couple more points in favor of the BoA weapon:
1. You don't need to lose leveling time trying to find people for group quests and five mans that give the blue weapons.
2. You don't need to lose leveling time going back to Ebon Hold to runeforge new weapons.
3. When the next expansion comes out, the heirloom weapon is likely to be useful for ret leveling as well.

Point 1 especially applies on low pop servers.

Heh. :)

I ran through Ramparts, Blood Furnace, and Slave Pens the other night, tanking them in unholy spec, with only the DK starting gear... and it was such cake. DPS obliterates things, and I had a 51 point healy-specced healer. It felt like running Culling of Stratholme in T7.5 gear. I liked that it was a nice break from the questing process. Less efficient, almost certainly (though BF gave me 2/3 of a level in an hour!), but it helps keep it enjoyable. I'd say run the ones you WANT to run, but don't fret about gear needs. It was also a nice teaser of DK tanking.

I /was going to/ run Sethekk Halls once I got to that level, but the BOA weapon is so much better. New weapons are rare enough that I generally would only go runeforge one once I had finished a level (and wanted to train) or was logging off. 30 minute Hearthstones means I can Death Gate, train, runeforge, and then go back to Honor Hold (or wherever).

The only thing keeping me from using the BOA axe is the aesthetics. ;)

Lobera was lucky enough to win the roll on the Hellreaver her first time through Ramps, so I never really had to do that one again.

As of right now, she's using the green 2h quest reward that you get from one of the starting BT quests. Though, I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't just run a buttload of heroics (....... if I can find groups :( ........ ) on G, and buy the BoA stuff.

Blood til you fill out the Tier 9 abilities then you can kinda do whatever you want. Glyph of Pestilence can be quite helpful since you can refresh your DoTs with one cooldown instead of two mediocre damage abilities.

Talent Tree should include the following:
Subversion/Butchery
Bladed Armor/2H Spec
Dark Conviction/Rune Tap (I liked it)/Death Rune Mastery
Bloody Strikes/Vot3W
Bloody Vengence/Abom's Might
Hysteria (Blood worms are pretty meh)
Imp Death Strike/Sudden Doom
Heart Strike/Might of Morgraine

After that you can do as you please. I'll agree with Splug that On A Pale Horse is a nice things to have.

If you use Glyph of Pest. your rotation should look something like:
PS>IT>DS>HS>HS>DS>DS>Pest>HS>DS>DS>HS>HS>DS>DS>Pest, etc. using death coils when your runes are on c/d.
If I ever get behind/mess up my rotation I can hit Blood tap for the instant death rune and refresh my diseases with pest again. The healing you get from Death Strike should be enough that you'll never need to use Rune Tap, but I liked having a point into Vamp. Blood as an "oh shit" button for a big heal. I wasn't using Death Strike with leveling so with the innate healing you get from dpsing Blood Gorged may be worth it.

Hope that helps.

Glyph of Disease, not Pestilence. Pestilence is a minor that increases the jump range by 10 yards.

Depending on how fast you level this character this may affect you, in the future the BoA weapons will be runeforgable.

Nice! :) I'm glad to hear that. It did seem to be a quirk. I guess runeforging is an OK thing since it's something you can ONLY use yourself.

Though, then they could have something silly like someone with one DK runeforging something with fallen crusader, xferring to a lowbie toon, and letting that toon send it (after cross server transfer) to a fresh DK -- viola, Fallen Crusader at 55.

... of course if someone is going to pay a server xfer fee, I really don't care. ;)

Well they're changing the way all enchants work. You can put any enchant on an item but it won't work until the character is a high enough level.
