Wotlk Professions choice

Postby woulacrosse » Wed Nov 05, 2008 1:52 pm

Currently i'm a 375 JC and miner mainly just for the gold aspect of it. i was wondering what was supposedly the best profession in terms of craft able tanking gear. would it be worth it for me to re roll as a BS? Or will there be a couple nice tanking patterns for rings/necks/trinkets finally?

JC/BS. I am leveling BS/Mining to make my own tanking gear and make a pretty penny selling my skills to other tanks too. Leveling as JC/mining makes switching to BS less appealing since you will likely have bought the BOE tank gear anyways.

LW/BS

Not using JC for the 1-3 extra stat points. Just not worth it. And JC becomes worse than everything else once you have access to epic gems.

JC is a lot more than 1-3 stat points.

Also LW is only stamina as opposed to a variety of stats.

Seeing as the best prof changes from patch to patch and blizzard seems more inclined to not let one top the other this time around. Simply pick the one you like the best. The edge any single one gives won't be powerful enough to make or break raiding or pvp.

I strongly agree, versatility is a factor that should be given a lot of consideration by tankadins.

With the various concerns a tankadin has (uncrittable, 102.4%, EH, and threat), JC gives you a choice in what to augment. The JC-exclusive gems are prismatic, so you know that any time you need to tweak your stats, you won't have to worry about losing a meta bonus. Further, they come in just about every flavor you could ever want - defense, stamina, dodge rating, parry rating, hit, strength, etc. (just not BR or BV).

Yet it is so much easier now that we don't need to worry about crushing blow.

Now only one magical number required for uncrittability, otherwise item score solves most of the decision.

sigh....

I'll say it again. Professions are now all about what makes you the most Gold.

The toys and buffs are nice, but, none outweigh the cash from sales. Blizz has stated that there will not be uber-leet must-have items (no more Stormherald or epic goggles), so go with a balance of income and what you enjoy.

All those lw/jc guys must have tons of gold to spend to skill these two profs. without the matching gatherer prof.

Those skilling 2 non-gathering professions have alts to do the gathering with, then it just takes time.

While the tps boost is nice, then feeling I'm getting from beta testers is that threat is not really an issue.
The stamina is nice, but there are other (better) alternatives for that:

http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=37220

and I'm actually thinking we'll be wanting the defense trinkets more than anything to get uncrittable and allow flexibility on other sockets and enchants.
