Levelling through WotLK

Whats peoples thoughts on how to spec to lvl to 80?
I'm currently weighing up whether to go ret and just grind/quest there or prot and do it mostly through instances
Is prot 3.0 viable for soloing quests/mobs etc with a ZA/kara gear lvl going into the lvl grind? or is it considerably slower than ret?
Instances give you maybe 4 bars of exp per run, from memory getting to 60 and 70, so would it be worth doing say 50 instance runs instead?
Sorry to ask the nubby questions but my pallys a fairly fresh 70 but the char I want to be my main at 80 (as prot)
