Will we even be able to tank right off the bat in 3.0?

All things related to the expansion

I should be, if chardev is right, 498 def post patch switching gear to my 'raid' set and using the Sun Eater I have already

using my post patch gear setup in both cases
no kings in both cases
now
Defense Skill - 523
Dodge Chance - 22.89
Parry Chance - 17.26
Block Chance - 20.16
mitigation with holy shield - 107.56(with libram)
mitigation with holy shield - 102.23(without libram)

Post patch, swapped gear according to chardev
Defense Skill - 498
Dodge Chance - 26.46
Parry Chance - 16.25
Block Chance - 19.16
mitigation with holy shield - 108.00(with libram)
mitigation with holy shield - 102.8(without libram)

10% kings would push both a little higher, but chardev was only giving me the 2% buff :/ so I ran them without

my issue is more the loss of almost 40stamina due to talent changes :(
WTB libram with +stamina!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! as I no longer need the damn 'must have to tank' one

Since our avoidance goes up with this patch anyways, Merciless Gladiator's Shield Wall is an excellent band-aid to make it until the expansion.

It's already a great effective health piece, and now the resil counts for something too!

I'm getting Merc glad scaled shoulders to close the defence gap, only have defence to cloak and with shoulders ille be uncritable and some.

I don't know why people cite the dodge on the Hyjal cloak as a reason for it to be better, considering that the actual avoidance from the Hyjal cloak is unequivocally worse.

For the record, the hit and dodge from the hyjal cloak is vastly superior.

To blues? Sure. To the badge cloak? Not in a million years.

It's far superior to the badge cloak on anything except Brutallus.

I really love avoidance, and the badge cloak is clearly superior for that. For fights where threat matters, yeah sure, go for the hyjal one, at least now that hit rating is definitly going to be more useful. But for any fights where actual survival is at stake, I'd never take off the badge cloak.

One's better for staying alive, one's better for making mobs love you.

Everything's better on different fights, or if your gear is lacking X, or w/e. I prefer Slikk's personally, but if it wasn't an upgrade for someone else I'd pick up Pepe's and use it now and then.

Back on the original topic though, the only thing that might be an issue tanking wise is losing 20 defense. I personally won't have that problem.

When I switch between slikk's and pepe's, I actually get a slightly higher dodge percentage on my character sheet with slikk's (both enchanted +12 dodge) - pepe's has the hit going for it and that's it.

One thing though is that people will probably lose MORE than 20 defense from the way the gear itemization has changed, a lot of pieces have less defense on the PTR than they do on Live. I went from 493 down to 463 (Glad I have that Hydross trinket...)

I'm seeing it going down usually by 25 def pts...my gear varies from things i used since lvl62 up to T6, and in different sets i have collected it's always around 25-26 def loss :)

With the gear i now use for like everything i'm on 487 so i think i'll go with that for trash, just shouldn't forget to swap some for a boss :P

The only thing I've seen some Paladins struggle with is 490 defense without Anticipation. Which, on another note, really makes me wonder what you guys are wearing...

I've never specced into Anticipation before and I'm sitting at 511 defense without a single defense gem or enchant, and no defense on my shield or trinkets.

I suspect you all just need better rings...

i suspect you never tanked that far ahead, the transition of ssc/tk gear to bt/hyjal gear drops alot of defense for avoidance/SD, its a rather tough transition phase WITH anticipation
Uhh.. no.

My defense tends to agree with the no.

Wow, you have like 560 defense right now? That's crazy.

Anyway, I think the change to anticipation is going to effect new paladins the most. All you people in BT and Sunwell prob have enough alternate pieces in the bank you can just swap out. Luckily, new paladins are using the S2 weapon and shield (or should be), which pretty much negate any crit issues.
