Matching gem slots in WotLK

Remember as well as gemming str, you want to put a chant of str not SP on ur wep.

This is an interesting point. After 3.0 Potency > Major Spellpower? Or does our 40 SP enchant still win?

Potency > Major Spellpower (even the healing enchant is better since it'll give 43 spelldmg)

Hm, I'll certainly be throwing a potency enchant on the first slow weapon I can get my hands on, in that case.

Now, differences aside, how many of you are going to be matching sockets with Str/Stam in red, Def/Stam or Str/Def in yellow, and Stam in blue? How many of us will stay with the straight-stam gem system?

Personally, I'll be matching sockets for the most part at 70, though mostly on gear with yellow sockets (for the def/stam I need to reach uncrittable). I suppose I'm undecided on if I'll do it at 80 or not, but I will probably end up matching sockets there, too.

At the moment, I'd think most people would socket +15 stam for almost all the sockets unless they want to match Meta like http://www.wowhead.com/?item=35501 (which would be the preferred gem for me anyway). Socket bonus has to be good enough to negate the benefit of full 15 stam gems.

So from what people are saying here....

I actually started gemming more avoidance now then always stamina.

This is essentially what's been said as the best general purpose setup when 3.0 hits.

Are there any other enchants that will change drastically when we all get patched? I can't really think of a whole lot, but some of us will switch some enchants for defense to make up for the loss of anticipation, which requires 48 defense rating to overcome from what my napkin math says.

As another note, looking at how the http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?item=33522 was changed, I'm still not convinced that the Chestguard of Stoicism is any better just because stoic guardian lost 8 dodge rating and its spellpower.

I did a side-by-side comparison on those specific items. I boiled it down to the differences. I also assumed matching slots since Yellow is quite nice for +Def.

Stoicism
158 Armor, 15 Stam, 12 Def, 4 Dodge, 39 Block Value.

Stoic Guardian:
4 Strength, Yellow slot, Blue slot. Converting the Yellow into a +10 Def and the blue into a +15 Stam, I'm left with:
