This requires group with ele shaman and many leatherworkers.

Why would you want an elemental shaman over an enhancement shaman?

Alright, I have heard some people saying EH is absolutely the way to go on this boss. Then another crowd saying they regemmed/geared avoidance specifically because of this fight.

HALP?

My priorities in order for gearing were:

1) Brutallus can put down one hell of a burst, and you need enough EH to survive it. A 6k stomp, 11k unblocked mainhand hit, and 5.5k unblocked offhand hit is a fairly likely sequence, assuming he catches you while Inspiration is down. Figure that's a worst-case 22k bomb on ~23k armor. You must be sure you can survive that spike, either via rotating health increases from nightmare seeds/shadowmoon insignia/etc or by just having more health than that baseline. It's probably worth your time to chart out your cooldowns relative to the stomps you'll be taking in advance, to make sure you have one up for each stomp... otherwise, you can't count the temporary HP for the worst case.

2) Your raid needs to output close to 28k raid dps to kill the boss before or at the enrage timer. Ensure you can output enough threat to stay ahead of someone shelling out 2k personal DPS.

3) Once you're sure you can survive the massive spike and can keep the boss on you with infinite rage/mana, you can really kinda do whatever you want with the remaining itemization. There's not a ton of wiggle room left after the first two demands though. I'd honestly say go for whichever gear has the best total item value in survival stats (avoidance and EH) and can meet the above two requirements. More EH is good. More avoidance is good. After a point more threat is excessive. Solve for max(x + y).

EH.
Avoidance is for dummies and offtanking Shahraz style.

so the conclusion of this thread is..
paladins should not tank brutallus ?

and if you say otherwise.. please add your
contingency plan for a "resist" on your 15s
taunt (bop'ing 2nd tank is not an option to
rely on imo)

We uh... 'simulated' BoPing a tank. If we made it more than about two minutes before I dropped dea-I mean, was no longer was a legal target- he did indeed go back to the other tank. If a tank died in the first minute or so, the fury warrior and rogues (who hadn't vanished yet) also got flattened. Thus, if you tank first you'll get maybe one transition where you cannot BoP the other tank as a fallback plan. After that, you should be fine. Also, to quote Lore in the other thread:
Lore wrote:FWIW, you can BoP the other tank if your taunt gets resisted, so long as it's not too early in the fight.

Tanked him for our progression kill last night, had no survivability or taunting problems.

Precision and some hit. For instance Praetorian's, or in worst case Romulo's Poison Vial.

I personally haven't seen a single taunt resist on boss. Not on Nalorakk, not on Lurker, not on Vashj, not on Maulgar, not on Kalecgos. Guess I'm being lucky >.<

i do have praetorian's and pendant of titans as options in my bank

+1,27% (pendant)
+1,14% (praet)
+3,00% (talent)
=5.41% melee hit

where does this put me?
3,59% failure because of 9% melee miss + rd beeing affected by melee hit?
0,59% failure because of 9% melee miss + rd beeing affected by melee hit AND spell hit?
8,59% failure because of 17% spell miss + rd beeing affected by melee hit? AND spellhit aswell?

is there any serious testing with taunt mechanics out there that were done after 2.3?

this was in the patchnotes:
"Righteous Defense: The chance for this ability to land successfully on its targets is now increased by hit rating."

wich does not say anything about spellhit not longer working.. or a change from spellmiss chance (17%)
to meleemiss chance (9%) .. just "melee hit rating does now have an effect on rd"

It really seems like Brutallus wouldn't care much about resists exept 1% chance. Equipping hit does not seem to make any difference.

Nothing specific ("testing" is quite impossible and Blizzard didn't say anything about it), but in http://elitistjerks.com/f15/t23789-brut ... iscussion/ there were several statements agreeing in the thesis that there are less resists than normal. And there is less hit rating on Brutallus tanking gear than on the gear the tanks became used to within the last months, I guess.

I'm sitting out on this one

Brutallus doesn't crit either, which made our druid go full agi-dodge gear.
That and the raid leader being a hunter (he wants lotp)

There are a lot of things Blizzard doesn't tell us.

Has anyone actually seen a taunt resist on Brutallus?

Yes, otherwise you would say "no resists on Brutallus". But it is proven that it is not the case.

Yeah I have, our warrior tank got resisted which ended up in almost an instant wipe as the second group took a 4th slash.
