odds are someone whose frame rate drops under 10~ in aoe situations where mine go to 40 won't be able to buy more than one card :p

In a nutshell........

SLI and Crossfire are the nVidia and ATI solutions for using multiple GPU's in tandem.

Motherboards that support either of these technologies will allow you to install 2 of the same type of video card, connect them in SLI/Crossfire mode, and have them act as 1 GPU, providing 8-16x acceleration over a single graphics processor.

Or Crossfire if you're so inclined. It's /not/ that expensive anymore. C'mon.

Hmmm, didn't realize WoW supported SLI and Crossfire. If I knew that, I would've ordered a second graphics card for my new system.

It doesn't support SLI, but it MIGHT work. I was running dual 7900GT's a few months back and there was very little difference in the frame rate (although it is better than the x1950PRO I am running now).

Running 2x 8600 GTS OC... Like I said, I never drop below 40fps, in ANY situation.

I tried pulling vexallus and all of his adds in normal MrT once. We had two mages with us. As soon as I consecrated and they aoe'd, both mages and the priest healer d/c-ed. They didn't get low FPS, they just got kicked off the server, lol. Needless to say I haven't tried that little stunt again since.

When did WoW start taking advantage of SLI?

a post like that in a thread talking about frame rates in World of Warcraft would imply that SLI and WoW are in some way related... :p

No, it just means that I'm suggesting a SLI setup for general use. Whether or not it works with wow (which I was pretty sure it didn't, else I'd be getting 60+fps all the time) wasn't assumed in the post.

SLI works, it works well ... and if you can run it, it usually means that your graphics card(s) will pull great framerates whatever you're doing.

Ok.

I personally advise against using an SLI in a WoW box because both the general 3D drivers and WoW itself have a history of fucking up when SLI is present and active in your system. Furthermore, WoW will not take advantage of it. SO unless you have other games that take advantage of SLI, I'd stay away from it.

Also, if you're running Omen2 by chance don't use AoE mode. Maybe they've fixed in the past few days, but last Tuesday running AoE mode was absoultely destroying my frame rate. I ended up turning off my omen because I wasn't sure exactly what was wrong, but just keeping it in single target mode works fine too.

Mine either. I think from reading the sparse documentation, you need to put raid targets on the AOE'ed mobs which would make it less useful IMO.

Really? I don't get it then. For me the aoe threat can be fairly well resumed into averaging the lowest threat amongst every involved mob in melee range that has aggro on you, and putting the other players' aggro on the highest of the same mess. This way there would be no accidental aggro in a well defined aoe pull.

Marking targets so they'd be used makes it...useless, to say the least. the overviews are pretty cool though.
