A dentist acted legally when he fired an assistant that he found attractive simply because he and his wife viewed the woman as a threat to their marriage, the all-male Iowa Supreme Court ruled Friday.

Part of me is glad and part of me is outraged about that. On the part of the Dentist and his wife, I'm glad that they are allowed to take appropriatte measures to protect their marriage (that their life takes precedence over their hiring/firing prerogatives). Part of me is outraged that as a worker you can be fired because the boss or his/her spouse doesn't trust their own fidelity.

So two people in my guild are arguing about what movie should be the best movie of 2012. One is avidly set on The Dark Knight Rises and the other is The Avengers. They're going on and on for probably close to an hour about the other movie's flaws, but won't admit to any of the flaws of their chosen movie. Then a third person steps in and says: "honestly, let me break it down for you. What you're doing right now is playing Dungeons and Dragons, where Person A goes 'I stab you in the neck with my +3 sword'. Person B then goes 'nah uh, I have my invisible anti sword cloak on'."

My laughs were had in gchat.

I despise The Avengers for the simple fact that no civilian died on screen from the invasion of New York. It was as if it was just a bunch of rowdy rednecks running through the city shooting their guns off. Also when they do the sweeping circular shot of the heroes getting ready to fight Black Widow loading a magazine into her pistol and cocking a round into the chamber is hilarious.

Also I am a Batman homer so The Dark Knight Rises made me happysad.

I think Batman's pretty dumb, so I may be biased. What did you think of the "oh I have to manually fly this thing out of town -- OH WAIT" "twist" they crowbared into the end of DKR?

There were a lot of things that ruined that movie, but that idiocy really took the cake.

I'd write more about it but don't know if DKR has been out long enough to skip the spoiler tags.
