It was spammed on my server when I started playing (middlish classic) because it was global...

It was used in my server in utter desperation when searching that one missing DPS and you could take litteraly anyone willing if my memory servers right. I think /who tool was more popular than that channel.

How long did that last? Many people turn off spam channels like that, which is a big reason why it was doomed.

It was used a fair bit for trade and for finding groups on Eredar US, as well as for general gossip. Probably most for trade. I remember people being mad when it was disabled, and for a while there were a few custom channels made as replacements for lfg'ing, but not for trade (or maybe I just didn't know the trade ones since I didn't use them).
