With the statement that the majority of subscriber loss was from the East puts a new perspective on why they tried this in Korea and Taiwan.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Well eastern players are typically much more "farmers" than eu/na players, which explains why certain kind of games had huge success in there but very little in the western world.
World of Warcraft is going into a direction where it cathers casual playing much more than hardcore playing and farming, which imho explains why in EU/NA the playerbase is about stable and maybe even increasing, while in eastern world players are losing interest as there's no more farmable time-sink in game, not even reputations or gold.

And of course a common official forum complaint was how grindy this expansion was compared to WotLK (what?).
