Re: 4.3 PTR
I used to raid with a blizz employee. I found out cuz his roommate, which we also raided with, had also applied for the job and he didn't get it, and was vocal about it.

Was my first thought too. If someone notices this, he's identified the guild they belong to by posting and it'll be simple for Blizzard to identify the people.

Yowza. This is going to make scheduling around the holidays more awkward. Also, is there no odd interaction with the end of PvP seasons etc?
Only for people from the States. Everywhere else in the world it's fine.

Have you got no respect for parents preparing their children's St Nicholas? Shame on you Nika!

Huh? I thought we were discussing the patch being around American Thanksgiving?

Yeah, and I jumped on St Nicholas not being far behind (6/12) and toyed around with it, and parents going around to shop the weekend of the 26/27.
Don't overthink it, it's just me being my usual Chaotic Stupid.

Re: 4.3 PTR
Releasing the patch over Thanksgiving week would be an unwise business decision due to having a large portion of the total subscribers and Blizzard's HQ being based in the US.

Well, yes, and I didn't mean to imply that scheduling would be awkward for everyone in the world. I just find it hard to believe that they would put out a major patch a couple days before a major American holiday, given most of their developers are in the States. The point will be moot in two weeks anyway, but color me skeptical.

Subscriber base aside, I'm thinking more in terms of developers and support, not to mention domestic vendors.
Are there numbers for subscribers per region published somewhere, out of curiosity?

But Patch 4.2 was released right before Independence Day. They don't seem to have any qualms about releasing patches before holidays in the US.

Re: 4.3 PTR
Not everyone in the states actually celebrates the holidays... just most people get the day off. If Blizz staggers days off (keeping people on staff that don't care so much about the holiday, but give them time off later) it allows them to continue pushing forward regardless of holidays. No clue if that's actually being done, but that's how we've worked holiday shifts in places I've been that don't close up shop.

It's Blizzard we're talking about, not a Mexican drug cartel. They aren't going to terminate a bunch of people just because some random dude from an internet forum vaguely insinuated that he knows them IRL.

And it's a patch release date.. not the layout for the final expansion.
That the background download has started is the surest sign anyway. Once that starts, a patch is almost always 3 weeks away.
