Practice!
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

Down by the docks, baby. And wait for the sailors to come by. They'll take good care of you.

(Actually, the notice board will have lots of breadcrumbs)

One more:

Are there profession trainers in the starting areas of the new zones, or do I have to train in SW/IF?

Great question as I could find nothing online about where to train my herbalism for cata. I am hoping Dalaran will have them, as I am logged off there.

Yes, there are profession trainers - some of them have recipes not availble from the ones in the capitals. Not sure about class. SW/Dar being the most accessible to the starting areas.

The trainers in Dalaran and the Argent Ren Faire will also be able to train you. There is even an archaeologist in Dalaran.
