Because I put in for vacation time for Tuesday and Wednesday. Few of my professors let me skip a final no matter how far in advance I asked.
Sick notes work extraordinarily well. I got out of Stats final in university by going to a doctor claiming I thought I had mono, went for bloodwork, etc. Took the final a month later instead.

In spite of me posting quite often, I don't have that much free time, specially because my job requires moving from site to site. At least I have 2 weeks off in December.
Studying outside of school is definitely different than having a job. When I go home from work, I go home and that's it. When you go home from school, usually you have to study. That being said... classes don't generally amount to 40 hours a week.
I'd say that if you're studying at a low level, barring some exceptions, you still don't have as many responsibilities as us old foggies. That's one of the reasons why I couldn't raid every time or could play for more than 3-4 hours -- because of real life gets in the way.

At my school, faking an illness to get out of class OR an exam can get you kicked out.

That's why you need a doctor as a friend.

And they find out HOW exactly?

By posting in your facebook that you went to a Red Sox noon game at Fenway Park when you should be in bed cuz you were coughing up a lung.
Most of the time I see people get caught up is because they actually start spilling the beans on their social networks.
My social networks, including WoW and this forum, use an email address that the State is not aware of, and I mispell my name on purpose as well for that matter. It also helps if you dont identify your workplace/university in your social networks.

Then they deserve to get caught. If you're going to fake ill, don't be a retard about it.

You have too much faith in youth.

Not really. I did this myself less than five years ago. I'm not far off that "youth".

Well, yeah, but I don't think you would be part of the average youth. Also, five years ago, twitter and facebook were not all the rage that are today.

There were blogs. I had my own personal one, but practically everyone used myspace or livejournal, or something like it.

Yeah, but back then it wasn't as easy as it is now to end up in the same social network as your teachers, even if you haven't friended them.
