Things will rise and fall, and wasting time squeezing out those last few points is totally not worth the massive investment. Especially since most people fail to optimize things that are trivial to fix, like, say, item enhancements.
But since nothing is worth changing professions for, engineering would need to be downright awful to change professions from. And it's not that bad, at least while the helm is BiS.
Well, I'd still debate it if I can run out and buy a comparable helm with my first 1500 Valor (or whatever) points.
Then again, I wouldn't be one to spend a wad of cash to change professions either. (I have an evil plot to get my guild to feed me mats to pick up LW..)
So two questions: Will the Orbs be BOP? and, will the first raid tier gear be available for Valor points right away, or only via token drops?

No comparable helm, according to the lists of available items. The Bio-optic Killshades appear to be T11 equivalents (which is a bit better than the WoLK goggles were). Orbs are, so far, BOP but that can change and we won't know what they really will be until Cata drops. They seem to be going back to BC for a lot of their modeling and the "orbs" from that were BoP until very late in the expansion.
Edit: I am not thrilled with the prospect. Why make the goggles a L81 BoP if you can't get one of the mats till L85. Of course, they probably do intend to make the Chaos Orbs BoE but probably not for a while yet.

Gaah.. another lvl 81 pattern that you can't make until 85 and are able to ninja an orb.

It's likely that they will make Chaos Orbs available for Justice Points. Whether this happens on the 7th or in a later patch is the real question.

It wants you too. It waits in Castle Hetrodyne!
And Halabar has a good point about Orbs and JP. They did that with Frozen Orbs fairly soon in WoLK, didn't they? My memory is a bit hazy.

Frozen Orbs were, iirc, open for badges /very very/ early in Wrath.
And on that subject, if you aren't already aware, as soon as alts are eligible for RDF for NR zones, the first random gets 12JP. So at 69, you can start earning 12JP a day. Which I realize is nothing compared to costs, but still worth noting in my book.

Oh...foop. I wondered where the Trans-dimensional Fabricator we had been promised went to. It is now "Last Relic of Argus" and the fabricator is now a fishing lure.
A. Fishing. Lure.
Cartmman: DAMMIT
Cold. Dead. Hands. I guess I really am not rational about being an engineer. It's probably due to over exposure to Pierra's Engy-tan.

Girl Genius <3. I keep wanting to buy the print book. Same for Gunnerkrigg Court.
edit: on the Engineering front, I am absolutely hoping I can use JP to buy orbs early on, so that I can craft those goggles before 85.
