i voted D, i dont know yet
i used to leveled the protection way : Reckoning, thousand of mobs at same time, killing them very slowy but all of them (especially 70-80, remimber this cavern in the fjord?
omg how hilarus to watch other players trying the spot and died horribly). not sure the new block system allow it now
i'm not familiar with retribution, not sure i will enjoy it, but may be no choice
at least, i keep one spec full tank oriented, my other spec (currently heal) for solo content...humm...not sure there is a nice protect template as efficient as a retrib
i don't even have dps stuff!! (i've stop one year, just catch some 251 with the elem event)

You take more damage from lots of little adds now that the block mechanic is a flat 30%.
But spamming WoG more than makes up for it - especially if talented & glyphed properly.
Ive heard though that the days of mass AoE farming are in the past - at least for L80 to 85. Mob damage on the PTR was buffed significantly.

Ellifain @ Khaz'Goroth does not approve of torture, save where there's experience/rep/loot involved.

I recall reading that it was wise to go Ret through Hyjal or Vash'Jir, Prot from 83 on because they hit hard enough that you'll be healing yourself a lot more in ret. I plan to farm ores a lot, so when I can't avoid mob aggro, I'll whittle them down as prot.

Shockadin! At least they made it to where I can actually hit things now. Also, lol @ my current holy gear having ~22% spell hit.

This time around I reckon Ret for outdoor and Prot for indoor (dungeons). I'll like the fact that I have the opportunity to learn both classes thru leveling, and especially still going prot for dungeons so I can learn them before hitting 85. Dual-spec FTW - I didn't have the gold to dual-spec until after lvl 80 when it was first launched so kinda excited about it now.
On a slight tangent, a 900g refund on the toons I dual-specced before 4.0 to help pay for old-world flying or 310 mount speed would be really awesome. Alas....

Same here (except the TBC part).

Gnome tanks are pretty good, I mean, you don't need to wrap them in foil before roasting because they come pre-wrapped. - Pyrea

This most likely, where's that option?
And where's the CBH?

0/0/0 and level through Archeology.

Leveling as prot, just as I've done since level 10. I don't like Ret very much, and I want to be able to tank instances on the way to level 85 anyhow. I don't care if it's a little slower, it's only going to take a maximum of two weeks anyway; probably closer to one week if my rates from 60-70 and 70-80 are any indication.

Also kinda depends what is working, and what is overcrowded, etc. If the instance server explode... then I'll probably be questing as ret, if the quest areas are completely overrun... then I'll get a few guildies and go run instances til I get bored of them.

Re: which spec for leveling to 85?
I am staying Prot for a few reasons. One, to be able to tank group quests and dungeons as needed throughout the leveling process. another, since I'll probably find it difficult to grab gear from quests that will accommodate both specs. I'm thinking if I grab Ret gear from quests then I won't be able to tank in it, and if I grab Prot gear I'll do crappy dmg as Ret. On that note, I figure the dmg would be equivalent to me staying Prot with the proper gear. Just a guess, but that's my thought.
