Well hold on, it's named "Kinect," which bears a striking resemblance to "kinetic (energy);" gaining and maintaining energy through acceleration! So perhaps they were weary at first, but after their movements were accelerated by this wondrous contraption, they were revitalized?

So someone decided to change the name about 6 months before it launched..I don't know why lol.

They found that name too obscure I believe, so they figured they'd go for an obscure pun about kinetic energy and connecting instead.

I suspect they were also aiming for some brand unity with the Kin.

I suspect they may now be shying away from that comparison.

For the geeky out there, the kinect has already been hacked, and an open source driver written.
That means if you want to get one, you can mess around with it, and do all kinds of neat stuff.

A google engineer is also sponsoring a competition to see what kind of cool stuff people do with the driver.
