New Community Site preview is up

Postby Dianora » Fri Nov 05, 2010 8:32 am

Via MMO Champion, the new blizzard community site is now open for preview @ http://us.battle.net/wow/en/

I also checked out the newer version of the armory, where not everything is working... Dianora looks kind of weird not turn 90 degree port side. http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/korgath/dianora/ 3D modeling isn't working on the new site yet.

The new forum avatar is your actual character with actual gear. I was surprised that my Tabard of the Lightbringer actually shows up in the icon.

Bah. Blizz and their bias toward Humans - Dwarves, Gnomes, and Draenei don't have proper pictures yet, just generic ones all blacked out.

untrue sir. Your pic is blacked out until you log in to WoW and then log out. It's running on the Armory updater hook methinks. My pic was also grayed out default until I went and VNC'd home, logged in to WoW, and then waited a minute. (also I relogged battle.net but I dunno if that mattered)

It feels way too busy to me. Maybe that can be sorted out with settings but my authenticator is at home.
We live in a society where people born on third base constantly try to steal second, yet we expect people born with two strikes against them to hit a homerun on the first pitch.

As someone in the paladin forum pointed out, this shows how few people actually show helms!

As for my opinion on the forums, they're a polished turd. Yeah, they look nice but it's still gonna be the same cesspool of trolls and whiners.

I almost never show helms or cloaks, on any of my toons. The engineering goggles were the main exception, I thought they were awesome.

Most of my characters have tails and that makes cloaks look really dumb.

Okay, this works. Though I may need to scale it down.

As far as the new site goes, I get the impression I often do these days, that a lot of the shiny takes away from the user experience. I find the buttons popping up on the post when you move your mouse over it distracting as hell, for example.

I'd be more inclined to show my cloak if it ever matched the rest of my gear. As for the helmet, barring very few random helms (T6 crown, crown of destruction), they always tend to make my character look a little top heavy.

*Edit*

They also cover my FABULOUS hair.
