Well, to be fair, 2 points in favor of this (from a definatly pro control guy).
1) Weapons are so prevalent in the US (in general) that it is safer to know how to handle them and be around them while learning, than not learning in most cases.
2) There genuinely ARE parts of the US where having a weapon, and knowing how to use it, is actually necessary for survival (granted, mostly its areas where you also need to have you own watersource and know how to build a fire in case your heating system fails etc..)
Main Characters:
Nooska, Blood Elf BM/SV Hunter on Argent Dawn (EU)
Morosin, Bloody freezing orc death knight on Argent Dawn (EU)
Niisca, Shady forsaken "priest" on Argent Dawn (EU)

Keeper Emeritus of the BM hunters guide on Elitist Jerks and the wowhead version untill patch 5.3.

If it helps, Worldie, I have had an offer from the same person (several times) to take me to a gun range and teach me how to shoot.

I usually decline. "In an emergency, I can figure out how to not shoot myself, but as I do not plan on owning a firearm, I really do not see a need for it."

"But if you knew how to shoot properly...!"

"It wouldn't compel me to suddenly go, OH I WANT A GUN!"

In fairness, if you don't know how to fire a gun properly, you're probably more likely to injure yourself than the animal or person you are aiming at.

Precisely. And I'm pretty clumsy, so I prefer to not tempt fate, training or not. Don't get me wrong, I do see the value in knowing how to, but a firearm is one thing I have no plans to ever own and/or permit in my residence or vehicle (loaded or not).

I'm very pro gun. I own quite a few weapons.

But, I'm also very pro gun control.
It's a messy topic, and people around here don't understand how I can be both, because the US is (in stereotype) a land of extremes when it comes to issues such as this.

As for a success:

I purchased, and linked what will probably be the last weapon for my current PoE character. Having a weapon of this magnitude has taken the clearing of end game content to an almost lulz ezmode in most instances, and I'm not even in completely "end game quality" gear yet.

Not too young, I would have been... 10-12 or so, and we were only shooting .22's.

The guns were kept under secure lock at the range, and we were all taught an extensive class on gun safety before being allowed to use them. To be perfectly honest, it was probably safer letting us use those guns that it was letting us carry pocket knives or use saws to cut firewood.

Work related: Finally tackled a nasty bug that has been haunting our application for several months now but did not want to be taken down.

WoW related: Gave someone new to wow (she got her level 87 hunter from her boyfriend who is also in our guild) a good time by showing around some raids. We first did our weekly "dragon hunt" (Sarth -> Malygos -> Ony) with several guildy's at the same time, just because we can. After that we had lots of spare time so we went Blackwing descent aswell. It was her first time there and she greatly enjoyed it ^^ Feels good to show new people around like that a bit ^^

Not really, it's just that specific fight. On all the others I'd take warrior mobility any day. :P

I think i`ll just file this in the success list. Last saturday we actually did a raid with 10 guildy's. With high hopes we started SoO flex with all 10 of us inside. The trash went down quite slow... And we didnt get the first boss to go under even once (with bloodlust). But we had 10 guildy's!

When we saw that wouldn't work, we went to Terrace of the Endless springs. And got absolutely nothing further... So after a few tries we stopped with that aswell, but we still had 10 guildy's together in a raid group!

Turned out that we had 3 dps doing 30k - 50k dps... We where kinda baffled on how they managed that, so we talked with them, helped them a bit. And one dps happily reported that he tripled his dps after the advice we had for him ^^ So should we manage to get 10 again, we should be able to get further :D

I just don't get this. How do you not do close to the maximum dps your class can do with the gear you have? What kind of advice were you giving them?

I'm not being harsh. I just genuinely don't know how people either can't work out how to dps or don't know how to find out from others what they are missing.

Many ways. I've seen mages spamming Frostfire bolt as frost, or Pyroblast as fire.
I've seen rets using Divine Storm for single target. Warriors blowing rage on heroic strike instead of actual damage skills. Etc
And other things.

I'm guessing you've never had the "pleasure" of coaching would-be raiders.

From me to you: the only way to become more depressed is by filling taxes.
When that day comes, seek all the light and wonder of this world, and fight.
