Windows patch today
MS released a pretty important patch today for Windows that you should apply as soon as you are able.
The nature of the exploit is such that if you aren't properly firewalled, you are vulnerable to the exploit just by virtue of being connected to the internet.
(I apologize for having posted this in the incorrect forum the first time. I think this is the one that's most appropriate, but moderate as necessary.)

It's for all versions of windows, it's a fairly nasty problem. Patch yourself today.

I think they may have fucked up my computer. Running Vista Home Premium 64-bit and I have my OS set to automatically install updates. Turn on my monitor and it tells me my OS basically isn't recognized, so now I'm re-installing Vista. Fun times.

Interestingly, despite how much folks seem to hate it, Vista users can chuckle to themselves a bit on this one. While they require a patch for this vulnerability as well, they are far more secure out of the box than the XP users are where this is concerned. An unauthenticated user can remotely exploit this vulnerability in XP, but in Vista they have to authenticate first.
Still, apply the patch and block port 139 on your network perimeter.
Oh... and BRAAAAAAAAAINS!!!!!

I thought it was amusing that this was in a mac commercial.
I did too. I love seeing apple taking the piss out of Microsoft and their non-chalant view of customer service.

"How much is this gonna be?"
"Have a bite."
"Ten million dollars. Now you have to pay me because you've had a bite."

I love the irony of poking fun at advertising with.....advertising.
