Great thread topic, but Asylum is that way --->
A number of mine have already been mentioned, but I'd add:
Schindler's List
The Godfather
Original Star Wars Trilogy

Well, it does say offtopic under "General." Once the lolcats get in, it's probably asylum time.
Star Wars Trilogy (4-6)
Indiana Jones Trilogy (1-3)
LotR (1-3)
I rule.

The "offtopic" note predates the asylum, I think it simply hasn't been updated since

Our definitions of "universal appeal" must be fairly different

Okay not a great choice of words but I would happily recommended those films to anyone who enjoys a good story

I'm surprised this didn't just get moved into AA. I think "off-topic" means not directly relating to Tankadins. Not pertaining to WoW at all goes in AA.
You did forget one movie I can think of so far.
One of the greatest movies of all time.
Based on the greatest book of all time.
Some say it has changed their life.
It takes place on a planet named Arakis...
also known as Dune.
