To be fair, is there any "civilized" western society left that doesn't have "socialized" healthcare, that isn't decidedly pro-choice in laws, doesn't have firearms restrictions, where gays can't serve openly in elected offices or where evloution isn't taught?
I think one of the reasons most of the rest of western "civilization" thinks the republicans are so backward is because the ones that we hear outside the borders are the ones that are screaming to be very very special about something "the rest of us" got rid of long ago.
