One of the many things that had me cracking up throughout the article. Definitely a good read, with some awesome information, and enough humor to keep it from being dry.

Jim is quickly rising up the ranks of "People I find awesome". On Facebook, he occasionally posts his hate mail, and bizarre searches people have performed on his blog, both of which are highly entertaining.

So, to whoever linked his Schadenfreude blog shortly after the election, Thanks, jerk. You hooked me on another person's political blog. Though maybe, that should be a real thanks, since it did cut into the time I spent reading some of the insanity out there just so I could make fun of it.

I think I'd remember if that was me, pretty sure it wasn't. :D

Edit: Well I'll be damned... it was me... though I wasn't a follower of his, was just a post I (likely) pulled from fb.

A public admonishment? An apology? A lame ass excuse about being frustrated by the prosecutor over an argument?
This dumb fuckwad needs removed from the bench at the very least, with questions about his ability to even practice law brought into question.

Yeah, I posted a different article on the same judge on the frustration thread...

Looks like Todd Akins is contagious... or rather, Todd Akin got it from this dude since this happened in 2008

Because old rich dudes generally still think that women should be subjugated by men. It's a combination of old beliefs (suzy homemaker) and rich person entitlement issues (I am the boss of everyone ever), with a healthy dose of power corruption thrown in for good (bad, really) measure.

Aren't judges impeachable i most states? Or are they elected for a full term regardless? (I knwo federal judges are another mess).

Also, I agree in principle, but think we need to be wary of making it easily accessible to get a judge thrown out - politics already weigh too heavily on the minds of too many judges (and lets get the legislative and executive branch out of the judicial branch - setup an oversight agency, populate it once and set down rules for its selfpopulation from the legal profession, and let them handle all appointments - separation of powers requires actual separation)

Seriously, didn't we already establish that you also want to control a woman's uterus? You just think your timing, as scientifically arbitrary as it is, is better than the timing offered by this legislation which at least stems out of a scientific theory.

I don´t know what the judge is smoking.

I could agree with the Gov. Kerry´s proposal if the law would include at least a permission to abort for medical reasons after 20 weeks. I would prefer if it would include rape and incest, but I can understand if the law says you had 3-4 months to decide, that should be enough. But all the measures he took to hinder women to make a decision and laws to make it difficult for abortion clinics to operate leaves a very sour taste.

So if the government of Texas would introduce initiatives to help women like advice and aid for single mothers or women in other difficult circumstances, financial aid for medical examinations and stop trying to block abortion clinics with red tape and regulations, I could agree with that if some exceptions were made.

Medical reasons for an abortion can show up after 20 weeks.
Incest should be a reason. I assume we don´t talk about actually consenting adults with a bad taste but a probably traumatized minor who is pressured by the offender to keep silent.
Rape should be a reason, too. There are enough reasons that a woman is unable to make a decision with in the 20 weeks. Blocking her decison because she is a week or two too late is just cruel.

So I could see the argument that 5 months of pregancy should be enough to make up your mind. OTOH the texan government isn´t offering aid and enacts measures to prevent abortions by using financial or legal shenangigans, trying to circumvent the intent of the law. If they care so much how about counseling for mothers in desperate social situations how to cope with the situation. How about getting her help so she and the baby won´t live a miserable life. I think that you could prevent more abortions helping pregnant women who saw no other alternative besides an abortion and well offering them alternatives.

Possible cynical reason besides old men being control freaks: If you want to shut down illegal immigration you need another disenfranchised underclass. More babies born in difficult and poor families mean you get more of them.

And I agree with Klaudanus, let the women sort it out. Rich old white men or me aren´t directly affected by these laws. As possible fathers but well the mother has to go through the procedure and got the final word on the issue.

While disagree with him, I can actually respect what he thinks - its not "because we have removed god" as such, but because of the implications (is his standpoint) - that life and accountability to a higher power are not taught.
I don't agree, but I can resepct his standpoint (whether he should be out there talking about it right now, is another debate entirely)

Well, these massacres don't routinely occur in Europe because God is present in public schools. Oh, wait....

Also, what does god need with a public school? or a starship with that matter?

If anything... if you want to go that route, shouldn't it start at home?

Also, I hate the argument that you need religion in order to instill morality...
