Be prepared for random "Haha fuck you player" difficulty spikes when enemies switch to a type youve not fought yet and dont have a weapon for
Yeah, until you figure out a good pair of abilities to chain, and get the timing perfect so you can do it with 100% risk (with one or both of them being a +1 dmg/chain ability). From there you can just continue chaining until you mess up to beat practically any enemy in one attack. Downside is it'll annihilate the durability on your weapon if you get up to 40+ hits, but at least you'll survive.
The intro on Vagrant Story was awesome - "We should wait here for reinforcements." "Reinforcements? I -am- the reinforcements."![]()
I'm quite surprised no one mentioned Xenogears though - that's one of the few old-school games I have no problem playing through again, until I get to the 5-hour movie (aka disc 2).![]()
Also, Valkyrie Profile (the original, re-made as VP: Lenneth for PSP, I believe), was awesome. Still have it on the original PS1 discs, bought for ~$40 before it was remade as a greatest hits.
It's true, Vagrant Story HATED you when it caught you unawares with new enemy types. But the story more than made up for it, especially the Intro. Sweet Whiskey Jeebus I think it tops all comers in that regard.
Xenogears is a great game to replay until you hit the point where Exposition Overload kicks in. In a way, it feels like a completely different game (not in a good way).

Re: Old School Games
I remember when ASCII graphics were cutting edge.
I can't remember the name of it, but there was this computer game back in the day where you were a bandit, and you had to go around collecting diamonds and avoiding the cops. I used to LOVE it when my neighbors would be in town (we lived next door to their summer/weekend house), so I could go over and play games on their computer.
