Random Pondering
If you had to choose between being blind or being deaf, which would you choose and why?
Edit: No offense intended to anyone that may be blind or deaf.

Deaf.
If I'm deaf I can still watch movies and play WoW, and most importantly use my computer as I did before.

Blind for sure. Then I could continue to listen to and play music.

Deaf, since the modern age is extremely vision-oriented.

While the loss of ability to be visually stimulated via video games and movies is a big one, I think I would have more difficulty keeping a positive attitude without sounds.
And the ability to play the video games/work on a computer/etc. is still there. It just requires more effort to become good at them.
So I personally would prefer to be blind.

Re: Random Pondering
No contest, I would definitely choose deaf. Obviously I would rather neither, but being able to write computer code / go running, swimming or shooting would be practically impossible while blind.

Re: Random Pondering
I'm surprised that people are choosing blind actually. As Passionario said, this is a very vision-orientated society we live in.
Edit to add: If you like this kind of random pondering and have an iPhone... check out the app in my signature. There isn't the debate afterwards (wish I could have included that but that would make for a very long game) but you get some interesting numbers.
*Shameless plug is shameless I know*

Not to argue your choice, but here are some things to ponder about your reasons.
Nothing is impossible while blind, some things aren't necessarily a good idea (shooting/driving/flying) but aren't impossible. And writing computer code is definitely possible, albeit probably slower initially.
An article I recently read mentions computer programming as part of a list of "blind people jobs." I say that in quotes because there truly isn't a finite list of jobs that a blind person is capable of handling as long as they are willing to get creative and put some effort into it. If anyone is interested in reading it:

Re: Random Pondering
Living with deaf parents my entire life and speaking fluent sign language, I'm gonna go ahead and put my vote on Deaf.
While losing music and the ability to hear things sucks, I just don't know if I could live without staring down random womenfolk's shirts for the rest of my life. (Don't lie, everyone sneaks a peek.)

This is going to sound totally cheeseball, so I'll apologize in advance for being female, but I was just thinking about how I would feel if I couldn't see my husband's face anymore and it made me really sad inside.

Mmm, If I had a significant other, I'd agree! And yeah, pretty cheeseball status there.
But you have to admit, the curves. You can't see them? <Life fail mode?=true>

Well he's kinda man-shaped, so he has angles more than he has curves.

/facepalm
What I'm saying here.
Is tell me in a straight e-face, that you wouldn't be sad if you never got to glance at another nice pair of CBH and I will not believe you.
