I don't know which plugins do what, but apparently you can disable creepers, prevent creepers that somehow spawn from blowing anything up, and prevent fire from lighting. Fall damage and lava still suck, but at least it prevents your buildings from getting blown up

The big server I started playing on again (which has a large number of plugins and permissions settings) is still in v1.1. Apparently similarly sized servers who manage to stay updated, do so because they have an entire dev team dedicated to fixing plugins that broke in the latest patch.

Nice job btw. Have any issues with creepers spawning and impeding your progress, or is the server set to peaceful? I had issues making my floating citidel and creepers 'admiring' my basework (next time I use more torches).

Only reason I play SSP is for Biome Terrain Mod... floating islands, epic cavern world, flat bedrock (no gaps is a beautiful thing), Sea World, just tweak a few settings and I can have pretty much whatever I like. A lot of these customization options I wish were rolled into the base code/options. It would be nice if I could mix and match, and have variable areas, but BTM affects things only on a global scale.

It's really quite simple to wall off an area and keep it well lit.

TBH I would like there to be more monsters and more dangerous ones than there are already. I think that eventually, if minecraft doesn't do this by itself, someone should make a mod that adds a nethack style "dungeon of doom" to the world, with all associated monsters, magics and so forth!

Yeah, I googled it after making that post and was pleasantly surprised. A "Nethack" mod was just an idea that's been knocking around in my brain for a while that I completely lack the skills to pursue :p

iirc there was mention by Notch of adding a dragon mob at one point.

But speaking of the nether, I kinda wish I had more reason to go there other than glowstone, porkchops, and shrooms.

Heck, they already have tools that will translate between Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress maps. (probably one-way) I believe some people are using it to visualize their levels, as there's already lots of good tools for generating visualization for one or both of them.
