Re: MINECRAFT
They posted this on my guild forums about three weeks ago which lead me to buy it about two weeks ago and it is really fun. It's like the sims crossed with doom, my house is built into a cliff and it overlooks the sea
I think the trick's that you made someone proud.

It looks neat, but I'm not sure I'd have the focus to build the huge things I've seen in videos.

I've read the Penny Arcade stuff on minecraft, and I still don't understand the draw at all.

WHAT WOULD BEST DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONALITY?
Moonlight Sonata Techno Remix
Scriggle - 85 Fire Mage
Fizzmore - 81 Mut Rogue
Adorania - 80 Disc Priest

Re: MINECRAFT
I was waiting for this...
The Rock, Paper, Shotgun playthrough is a much better introduction to the game. I've been playing around on a multiplayer server with a handful of friends since the weekend and it's a lot of fun just making things and giving them silly names. Last I checked we had a massive sky-highway spanning most of our towering fortresses, a floating house, a sky arboreum and a lot of very deep holes in the ground. The latter are mostly my fault as my current favorite mining technique involves a pickaxe, some ladders to get out again and a very long vertical shaft.

PArt 7 of an (?)-part walktrhough of Survival Mode.

Basically, it's Survival Horror meets Legos, in first person. It looks tremendously fun. (There's also coop-multiplayer Building Shit mode, but apparently there's some griefin' to be had. Still cool.) I find it very compelling to look at something and say, "You know, I could build a tower there ..." and then later say, "why not add another four stories so that I have a visible beacon to home no matter where I go?"
I keep wanting to buy it, but every time I go to use the site it won't even let me create an account. I think that between Slashdot mentioning the creator's problems (which introduced me to the game) and then Penny Arcade spouting praise in its direction, the guy's gotten a TON more traffic. And sales. Once his site's stable I definitely want to drop the $10 or so on it that he asks for. The free version lets you build, but doesn't have nearly as robust a Survival mode, and so pretty much all the cool kids are using the "indev" or "alpha" version.
Multiplayer Legos. For almost-free. With zombie survival. Do want.

Re: MINECRAFT
I just spent all day building things. Literally, all day. I woke up and started building things. That was about 16 hours ago. I have 3 castles of varying sizes and numerous colossal holes in the ground to show for it. This game is way too fun.
