I believe this site may interest you. Here is a direct link to the Super Metroid runds, all verified to be hack/rom free. Everything else they do is nuts, especially some of the things they pull in older games like Mega Man or Mario in 5 minutes flat
Ghostcrawler: Right. If you are trying to AE tank and a bad dps is attacking the wrong target and dies, we call that justice.

I always viewed Samus as more of a vengeful person. It seemed like every game started with something pissing her off and her flying into a world-destroying rampage.

I thought the mario record was in the 2 minute neighborhood?

I think I'm more impressed by the guy that beat megaman using a DDR mat as a controller than by speed-runs of various games.
- I'm not Jesus, but I can turn water into Kool-Aid.
- A Sergeant in motion outranks an officer who doesn't know what the hell is going on.
- A demolitions specialist at a flat run outranks everybody.

Nope. Even using a computer rom to slow down the game and use save states, another site has only improved the run by two and a half seconds.

Tool assisted runs, while cool, aren't as impressive.

Finished Other M now and it's okay as far as games go, but nothing amazing. Of the Metroid games I've played (That is, all of them with the exception of Pinball and Hunters) it's the first one of which I don't feel particularly inclined to 100% it, and I can't say I feel inclined to ever replay it either.

The storyline was okay I guess, though hampered a bit by the low quality of the voice acting. The dialogue makes it clear that there's a lot of emotional depth to Samus, but her voice actress speaks most of her lines very monotonously; the text she speaks and the way she speaks it just don't match well.
The scene with Ridley seemed a bit overdone as well; if she always had that reaction to him it's a miracle she's still alive, sure it's probably because she was surprised to even see Ridley again, but it's hardly the first time he came back from being dead. Also on a personal opinion I think the game (Which you just lost, hah) could've stood just as well on it's own without all the flashbacks.
As for the controls, in third person they were a good adaptation of the 2D game controls into 3D. While you're playing in third person Samus is very quick on her feet and can aim and shoot at things in a split second with her beams, but in first person things just feel slow and awkward, you need to lock onto things which takes a second or so and even then the controls don't seem to always respond well to the fact that I really want to fire a missile now. And yes, you need to enter first person mode to fire missiles, and it's required on various enemies to do so to expose their weak points.
So controls are a bit fifty/fifty; the third person controls are good, but I found the first person stuff so awkward I avoided using it as much as possible, and that's a pretty bad thing right there, an integral part of your gameplay shouldn't repulse a player from using it. I think the game would've benefited a lot from not trying to keep the controls to just the Wiimote as that opens more buttons to use as well; if they were to make a sequel and made changes to allow it to be 100% playable in third person it'd be a much better game, currently it just reminds me of early Wii games where developers felt forced to put in a motion control gimmick because the Wii can do that.

Finally the general gameplay felt a bit lacking as well. While the game had all the power-ups that we know from the 2D Metroid games, it didn't make as much good use of slowly unlocking these as the other Metroid games would have. Nearly all the situations I found where I spotted something I needed an extra ability for ended up only giving me a missile expansion, energy tank, etc., there were very few cases where I could easily tell "Oh I'll need to come back here later to go on with the game". Due to that the game just feels like all rooms you go to only have an entrance and an exit, and occasionally a dead end with an upgrade in it. Even Metroid Fusion, story guided as it was, gave you more freedom to explore the areas it sent you to.

All in all, it's not a bad game, but it's not a great game like I'd expect from the Metroid series either. I'd rate it a 7 out of 10.

Thanks for that post Chicken.

You have pretty much confirmed my fears though. The controls and gameplay didn't look appealing at all. The voice acting looked terrible as well lol

I'll be giving this one a miss I think.

Now if I could just get the darned ffxvi beta to download !!
Shutting the f**k up as of 14/09/2010.
