Clockwork Orange strikes again! Good game, I won a T-shirt by predicting the score (thanks Holland for slacking towards the end!)

Also, Dantriges, where are you getting your date from? Wiki clearly says 7 MAR 90 as the date it was made official for unified Germany (3 OCT 90 is the official holiday for it). Meh, I should just ask someone at school in the morning, silly wiki.

EDIT:
Note to self: Stop using "silly (insert random word here)".

Wait what, people enter high level competetions to not win?

If we're talking about their destinies, then yes, most of them do exactly that.
If we're talking about their intentions, generally not. :)

there is a very very large difference between entering a competition wanting to win and entering a competition thinking they deserve to win.

i fail to see how can you beat on the "mental horse" and don't understand the difference between the two.

I don't understand how you can say that it's possible for someone to want to win, but then also think they don't deserve to win. Before you say I'm failing, maybe you should clarify this first.

If someone wants to win, but doesn't think they deserve to win, doesn't that mean they're self defeatist, and losing is just a self-fulfilling prophecy?

Deserve to win? No, I can't imagine someone entering a competition thinking they deserve to win it. They probably believe that they will win, but not that they deserve the win. That doesn't mean that they think their competition deserves to win though.

I think it's just an odd usage of the word deserve that you are using. You generally deserve something as a result of doing worthy, working hard, being smart, etc. But in the context of sports, it's all about what happens in the competition and not before it, so you can't really deserve to win going into the game. Now if you played better than your competition, you can say that you deserved to win afterward, and in all but rare cases you will have won.
