You don't like icons ? You won't like this one :

Background image rotates with a few Tron and ME2 wallpapers.

I must admit having icons all over my screen would really bug me, other than the programs I use regularly it's pretty empty which suits me fine, I tend towards smaller images on a black background than something which covers the whole screen mostly

This sort of nonsense makes me cringe. If you're not going to use your desktop, go back to DOS imo.

This is actually pretty tame, I just cleaned it up a couple weeks ago. Once the icons spill onto the second monitor, it's go time

It's not use of icons that I don't like. It's the huge amount of them. All those .jpgs on your desktop? Make a folder! organize it! I'm pretty sure any library would be jealous of the amount of file organizing on my pc.
I personally don't use any icons because that's why god made task menu's and docks but I'm not against them as long as they're organized.

Same here. On my computers I generally keep a file under my name, which splits into university, images, photos and movies
which then splits into year1,2,3, masters and phd, etc etc etc
Its 20x easier to find anything I need, over my gf's organisation which is basically a "dump everything on screen" motto.
Also, having a keyboard with 12 macro buttons helps... when I'm in desktop button 1 is WoW, 2 is minecraft, 3 is Shogun 2, 4 is DA:2 etc
It beats having to look through 5 mins worth of stuff to find the importand assignment thats due tomorrow

Once the icons spill onto the second monitor, I put them in the appropriate folder. In the mean time, most all of the files I work with get shared across multiple programs. (Photoshop, Imageready, Animation Master, After Effects, FTP, browser; uploading, downloading, etc.) Of course, larger projects have their own directories. But little incidental stuff is much easier to find by just hitting command-D (desktop) in the appropriate dialogue.
ps, :3

Re: Post your Desktop!
hey,
Why should I go back to DOS? I never ever use my desktop... when my win7 starts thunderbird opens and I see my emails - next things I start are Total Commander (file commander way better than the explorer^^) and Firefox... everything I want and need is accesible from the Win7 taskbar (sticky icons are fabulous!!) or the quick search of the "Start-Button"... I had the default win-background 1 year without noticing it at all.
Same reasons apply to the desktop widget - cool idea but I would never see them - so why have them?
I can understand other people use the desktop heavily (the mom of my gf stores everything there ... ugh!) and I personaly enjoy a CLI but I don't want to go back to DOS (full-time^^).
Bye, RedAces.
