Since this thread was necro'd, I figure I will share my experiences. We have had good success using the following strategy:
Treat the gong like a summoning portal that required 5 people.
I have everyone stand at the gong and tell them to click it once and don't move. Once enough people have done this, the guy runs over and opens the door. This has been working well for us so far. It doesn't appear to actually required synchronized clicking like the rumors entail, unless we are very lucky every time.

Your strat needs more screenshots annotated using MS Paint.

the first time we did it, we spent 10 mins with everyone on the gong and no go.
we then had everyone unequip their weapon. doors opened in 30 secs.
tried the same thing again for the 2nd run. unequip MH weapon and door opened within 30 secs again.
we'lll see how it goes the next run =p
oh..and dun forget to re-equip weapons after the doors are open.

We did tho, we tried to synchronize the swinging thinking we had to get the maximum force on the first hit or something.
I think Lore had already gone earlier in the week too, so he mega failed.

I'm gonna try this strat tonight. We've been stuck on the gong boss for weeks now.
We were trying to get the priests to mc the NPC to make him continue to bang the gong for us but that wasn't working. We also tried having a hunter kite the boss hoping we could break his shield if we got him far enough from the door but that didn't work either.
I think having ranged dps play Jenga was the missig piece though and may do the trick for us, thanks!
