Don't waste the misdirects just for a pissing contest. They can sometime make or break a fight.
I do this fight in 500 SD gear, and hold him through 3-4 knockbacks.

Well, not like you can get 25% more threat on Void reaver than the next one, if you can something is wrong.

Untrue. If it were true you wouldn't be able to hold him for more than 15-20% and I've have personally held him 50-75% He has stayed on me through 4-5 knockbacks. Trust me, it's possible.

Early knockbacks remove less threat than later knockbacks - that's why it's possible to tank VR for so long at the beginning. It's much, much harder to tank him all the way through
Example: At the first knockback, if you've generated 50k threat, you'll lose 12.5k threat from getting hit with the knockback. Later on, if you're at 400k threat, you'll lose a whopping 100k threat every time the knockback hits you. At the beginning you can easily make up for 12.5k threat but if you keep taking 100k losses, it's over.
btw VR hits like a wimp. I wouldn't worry about block rating or block value if you want to beat the warrior for threat. Crushing blows = more mana! (assuming this is farm content heh ^_^) Dodge and parry help avoid knockbacks so those are good. If you have a dodge trinket, pop it right before a knockback
Make sure you've got a shadow priest in the raid for misery, grab some spell damage food and a flask of blinding light, and you're set to go.
