Tanking Prince

My first post here on the forums

I've been tanking heroics and previous parts of Karazhan for some time now. I made my first attempt at tanking Prince last night and we failed miserably, dropping during phase 2 each time. After 3 wipes we called in our usual guild tank (prot warrior) and the rest of the group easily took him down.

What was it about phase 2 that rocked you?

Two biggest killers:
* Healers may not have been spamming big heals.
* Melee may have gotten in front of Prince and you got parry-gibbed.

There's another thread from yesterday discussing how you can prep for tanking Prince, but let us know if there's something specific about the fight you'd like help with.

Thanks for the response. Based on your confirmation that the gear is ok, I think the issue might have been healing. One of our healers was a old hand at Prince, but the other healer was on I believe his first time there.

Only taking 2 healers for learning Prince? Might help to bring a 3rd.

The group as a whole has done Prince many times. We just did it last week with myself as healer (I also have a 70 holy priest) and our holy paladin.

So we thought it wouldn't be as much of an issue as it turned out to be. Ahh well. We'll live and learn.

Just did him on last tuesday without "stoic chest of the guardian" that i've got now.

Phase 2 wasn't so complicated, maybe you'll have to bring some ironshield potions during that phase and pop your trinkets, nightmare seed...and ofc tell your healers to overheal during that phase...
Having some expertise stats are also good here to avoid him from parrying.

The only trouble that we got twice is the infernal that spawned twice on the dps group

Another "trick" is to just stop auto-attacking for phase 2, and making sure ALL of your melee DPS is standing BEHIND Prince.

Doing your usual rotation of judgements/consecrations/exorcisms will keep you reasonably ahead of your DPS (though by that point you should be a good 20-40k threat ahead of them anyways), and when you hit p3 you can go back to attacking.
