2.1 Tanking Spec

Postby Jadlene » Wed May 23, 2007 5:45 pm

I guess seen as we've gotta respec now to grab imp HS. I thought I'd have a projection of what build I'll get at level 70.

Benefits:
Improved retribution aura. For additional passive threat building & AoE tanking/farming.
Improved SoTC. Again, more holy damage = more threat.

Weaknesses:
No anitcipation. I personally feel you can make this up using gear.
No gaurdians favor. Build enough threat and this should be less of an issue.

I think due to the nerf of SA we need to again start working on ways to improve our threat building as we will not have tons of mana to blow on threat like we used to.

Personally I'm using this, which seems to be the new "cookie cutter" tank spec:

Good for leveling and non-heroics, but in heroics and raids you'll be running Dev Aura instead.

Comes out to an extra 29 spell damage *if* you're running JotC. Personally I tend to run JoW to help the casters, but your mileage my vary. It's not a bad talent, but not a must-have.

No anitcipation. I personally feel you can make this up using gear.

This is true and false. Yes, you can hit 490 defense and even uncrushable without, but you're going to be sacrificing stamina to do so. As Paladin tanks get heavily geared (at least post-Kara) it's possible that they'll have the option to drop points in this without losing stamina, but for the vast majority of Tankadins this talent is a must.

No gaurdians favor. Build enough threat and this should be less of an issue.

Agreed, I've dropped this talent for Imp HS and haven't missed it.

All in all I think 0/44/17 is a solid 5 man tanking build, but 0/49/12 still wins out in my mind for anyone who's raiding.

Your points seem solid. If my healers aren't handling me in heroics & raids then I'll have to go down your path instead.

Anyway. Back to levelling :)

Thanks for feedback.

Glad to have seen this, exactly the build I worked out for me in the future. Good to know my theorycrafting muscle is working :)

I am running with the build below as off 2.1 to test things out

With the gear upgrades from Kara I am still uncrushable and have 1,4k more life than pre-2.1. My threat ceiling has gone way way up, and my DPS have noticed a huge difference. I love it =p
