redoubt
do you REALLY need to put 3/3 into redoubt still? i understood it back in BC when crushing blows were something to worry about, and even during naxx when the amount we were blocking was still somewhat noticeable. but in the current content with the amount of dmg we are taking per hit(not to mention the amount of it thats spell dmg) how much is it really doing? granted its nice for large AoE pulls and the BV it grants is more threat but honestly even with the nerf to RF and TBtL being changed to str instead of stm i'v yet to worry about my threat in a fight. just looking for some input.

Re: redoubt
Yes, you might feel it's not "needed" but it's a pretty compact efficient talent, considering that it gives mitigation and a tps/dps increase.
The real question is, how would your survivability be without the extra BV? When you're on progression content, every little bit helps. I would never consider dropping redoubt while I'm progression on ToC hardmodes. If I was just doing ulduar, I can see me dropping it to get 5/5 reckoning.
Edit : Unsurprisingly, on a topic about redoubt, I substituted it for reckoning. 5/5 redoubt idd.

Reckoning.
That would be a MASSIVE DPS/TPS loss unless you're BV capped without redoubt, which I find extremely unlikely.

Re: redoubt
The block bonus from redoubt is great for anything that's not hitting you like a hard-mode boss.
I wouldn't drop it. It's still great for any time you're tanking a pack, which still happens.

Re: redoubt
thanks for all the feedback. what about just going 1/3 into it? i dont actually want to drop it completely. just wondered if it warranted the full 3 talent points.

From Theck's calculations, Redoubt is worth more TPS than SotP or Crusade (against non DUHE movs). So unless you're BV capped without it, you should never ever ever never ever take anything less than 3/3.
- Code: Select all
Talent DPS TPS (both per point)
Reck 12.8 23.7
Conv 20.2 46.0
Crus 32.2 76.4
SotP 30.3 78.0
Red 31.9 82.1
DivStr 49.2 117.4
TbtL 55.5 142.9
C(6%) 65.5 155.0
1HWS 92.7 218.4

Re: redoubt
1) As shown, redoubt is an excellent threat talent.
2) Redoubt gives you a lot of mitigation. We are paladins. If the damage is avoidable, we can put our shields against it, and that means even less damage taken.
3) Tanking specs can take any threat talent AND redoubt. Not all of them, but getting all of them involves getting redoubt anyway.
There's simply no reason not to take redoubt as it is today.

I know reckoning is a lot of fun, I personally wish for the day when it becomes good cause it a good laugh when it procs, but unfortunately going reckoning just means more damage intake and less threat.
the 'wasted block %' is a red herring pointing you away from the consistent benefits.
