Consecration first tick resist in question?

I was doing some SoV/Holy Vengeance testing on Netharel(easy with full block rating gear on), and I ran into this interesting nugget in my combat logs:

For those who can't tell: I had 6 supps, and Netharel.
My old consecration fades from all 7 @ 07:49:03.5
My new consecration is resisted by 1 supp @ 07:49:13.7
My new consecration debuff is added to all 7 @ 07:49:14.4
My new consecration TICKS for dmg to all
7 @ 07:49:15.9

According to this, eventhough a mob may resist the casting of the consecration, the debuff still gets added, and all 8 damage ticks are applied, despite the resist message.

No, this is correct.

Consecration does basically two things at once when you cast it; an immediate AOE damage ability, and then an area DoT. The DoT component cannot be fully resisted (though partial resists are possible) because as far as the game is concerned it's just like any other DoT. The first "tick", however, isn't really a tick of the DoT so much as an instant cast AOE ability (similar to a Mage's Arcane Explosion).

EDIT: Hmm, after looking at it a little closer I think the OP isn't contesting that it can be resisted, but whether or not the resistable portion actually does any damage. Interesting.

It's kind of hard to be sure with such a small slice of the combat log, do you think you could post that entire consecration's worth, fade to fade?

For example, some of the ambiguities... the first damaging tick doesn't actually occur until just over 2 seconds after the resist; this shouldn't be the case. Also there's a full 10 seconds between consecrates, were you just waiting or is there possibly another consecrate in there?

Well, that's one way of putting it, yes. Something was resisted... whatever that something was, I got no message in my combatlog that any other mob received or resisted it, and I got no message in my combatlog of any other mob taking any damage.

Alright, so going through and parsing it into a more quickly readable format, we've got:

The times are kinda wacky but we can probably chalk that up to latency. That there was a resist message at all is kind of strange though, since all 7 mobs gave an afflicted message as well (this also makes your initial post make more sense to me ).

Some additional testing might be in order, but it's looking like the "resist" message that Consecrate gives every so often doesn't mean anything at all.

All mobs can block...even elementals. It was added to the game awhile back, for consistency...I remember reading it while studying tanking awhile back.

I've noticed this a lot - the resist message comes up when I actually cast consecrate, not on the damage tick (this is what the floating combat text gives the impression of, at any rate). It's like Consecrate is a 2-component cast, but the resistible portion doesn't seem to actually do anything (other than play an animation or make a sitting target stand up).

I've never run any extended combat logs on it to verify though. Worth checking into for someone with more patience than me

Okies! Finally, lost some password settings going from linux back to windows on the laptop and had to dig out a backup for other websites, but anyway.
To avoid latency issues I waited several seconds between consecrates so they didn't intertwine.
Note, rank 1 consecrate and the occasional spellbreaker.

Well that's pretty clear, there is a resist message but he still takes 8 ticks of damage, so it would seem that consecrate ticks can't miss.
