fantastic guide man! I'm sure there are plenty of tanks that REALLY appreciate guides like this as much as I do!!! I also love that you kept it localized to one faction of rep as well

I do have one small suggestion .. everyone always posts these things in terms of slots from the top down .... why not rearrange the post in terms of level that the items are obtainable/equippable? That way us tanks that are grinding to 80 have a list and order to be working through . Then it's more than just a gear list ... but kind of a gearing up map .

Kind of a way to say when you hit lvl 71 do these quest chains. lvl 72-74 do quests in <x> to grind up your Wyrmrest accord rep. lvl 74 have x,y,z crafted (you have a mats list too! well done! lol), lvl 76 we know which instances to run .. I know, I know ... it is your "brief" guide and my suggestions could be deemed exceptionally lazy, but it would be uber useful and much more comprehensive .

I chose the neck I did because of the higher base defense potential, and while I'm a big lore nerd myself, it has awfully low stam (27, same as the neck from Steamvault) for a tanking drop.

I'll add some more about how to get Wyrmrest rep and the order in which the items are equippable later today sometime when I get home from work.

I think the guide focused on not instancing and just items you cold probably get solo, some maybe duo depending on the quests difficulty.

However, I will say that I chose the Tundra Pauldrons because they are very well itemized for us and have dodge and BV on them, which not quite all of the pieces on the list have. It gives a little variety to the list.

One more thing: I tried not to pick anything that WoWHead said was Alliance-only or Horde-Only. It may not actually be the case, but I wanted to avoid it on the off-chance that it is actually the case.


May I also suggest we move Lythac's post here from the WotLK forum? I didn't know it existed until it was linked here, and I think it belongs here with the other good gearing-up-type threads.

I should have clarified: I won't list something that's listed as Alliance only unless I can personally confirm otherwise (often because I have the item or have done the quest myself). Check my armory to see that I too am happily wielding a Crescent of Brooding Fury complete with Potency, and I am a Blood Knight.

I have those shoulders, as well as some other quest rewarded shoulders of higher item level. Despite the lower defense, I am really happy with the BV and avoidance on these. We'll see once I get higher level, of course, but I'd say the Tundra Pauldrons are quite nice.

edit: Moreover, I almost find it easier to get instance groups than to find groupmates for zone quests. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Thanks for the guide. I used it to help get my defense to 540. Search for the Daunting gloves and legs early and you might get them cheap on the AH (unless you know a blacksmith). The defense on these two items is a big contributor.

Quite a bit of my gear is from instances though. I am still using one badge gear item from BC and I also used BC enchants on several items to get there. I agree with other posters - getting to 540 defense is pretty straight instead of juggling the three ring circus with avoidance/stam/defense in BC.

Ragemane's flipper is doable by horde.

I took the mace rather then the sword though.
